The two-time title-holder continues her winning ways in Melbourne.

Opening the day's session on Rod Laver Arena, the world number 1, who is emerging as the player to beat at this Australian Open, was up against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro for a place in the third round.

Sabalenka, who defeated Sloane Stephens in her opening two-set match, didn't hang around either, although the match was generally more closely contested than against the American.

In 1h34 of play, the Belarusian finally broke the Spaniard in two sets (6-3, 7-5), even though the latter had served to win the second set.

It was Sabalenka's 16th consecutive victory on the Melbourne courts.

The three-time Grand Slam winner will now face Clara Tauson for a place in the second week.

The Dane, who won the Auckland tournament to kick off the year, eliminated Linda Noskova (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) then Tatjana Maria (6-2, 6-2).

"She played some incredible tennis in the second set, and I'm delighted to have won in two sets.

There are so many players who are at their best in these conditions. Today's match showed that.

Girls can come onto the court and play without pressure, without having anything to lose. They can put you in an uncomfortable position.

You have to fight and be competitive by playing the best you can," said Sabalenka after her success.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.

How about leavin...

It's a shame that so many matches are being canceled. TT ,you are destroying your game ,and thereby killing your app. I don't know how many matches others have had canceled , but I'm at 3 and it's only thursday.

As a long time player and lover of this game , I don't know how much of this I can tolerate. For example I waited hours last night for you to confirm my win and post my points. Every ot...

This week I have used all my formulas and best guesses to try to achieve the high score jimandlori958 set in our last competition. I am two games short because of cancelations and I need all wins to get there.

Grenier def Ysu 6-2 , 6-2 at Kobe today and the TT canceled the match.

An impressive win.. Congrats to our winner this week, jimandlori958 and with a score that could not be caught or matched. I don't remember a 56 in a while with our group. Nice to see everyone using the 2 point predictions. Can't win without 'em.
