Sabalenka sets up Indian Wells final against Andreeva: "It feels like an old mom facing a child"
Aryna Sabalenka wasted no time in reaching the final of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells. In a match with a sweet scent of revenge after the Australian Open final, the Belarusian world number 1 took just 51 minutes to defeat Madison Keys (6-0, 6-1), winning the first eleven games of the match.
On the court moments after her victory, Sabalenka reflected on her match of the day before looking ahead to the final she will play this Sunday against the prodigy Mirra Andreeva, who earlier in the day had defeated Iga Swiatek.
"I certainly didn’t expect to win this match so quickly. I’m very happy with how I played today, I needed to get my revenge against Madison. What an incredible start to the season she’s had!
I want to play even more matches against her in the future, I hope that will happen. What Mirra is achieving at such a young age is truly impressive to see, I say it every time.
We’ve already played a few matches against each other. It’s going to be a really good match, I’m looking forward to facing this teenager. It feels strange, like I’m an old mom going up against a child.
I’m nine years older than her, Mirra is just two years younger than my sister, it’s crazy," Sabalenka told the California crowd with a touch of humor after her match.
