Schwartzman after his win over Jarry: "I didn't expect to win".
Diego Schwartzman says no to retirement. In any case, the Argentine, who is playing the last tournament of his professional career in Buenos Aires this week, will be playing at least one more match.
The 32-year-old eliminated Nicolas Jarry in the first round (7-6, 4-6, 6-3) and won his first match on the main circuit since Tokyo 2023 against Francisco Cerundolo.
On court after his victory, Schwartzman shared his first impressions.
"To be honest, I didn't expect to win, but rather to cry. After several months without playing, I played a Challenger last week and had a good match.
But I wasn't expecting that. I made some nice points. He was probably a bit more nervous than usual.
I took my chance in the third set. I don't know how I managed to concentrate despite what was at stake. I was prepared to cry a little after this match, not necessarily for the win.
Now I'll have to rest and we'll see what the next round has in store for us," he assures us.
Schwartzman will face Pedro Martinez, who defeated Damir Dzumhur in the third set tie-break, in a two-day match for a place in the quarter-finals.
