Shanghai Masters 1000: Shelton Surprised by Goffin, Bonzi Defeated by Diallo
Ben Shelton was making his return to competition in Shanghai after a shoulder injury that had forced him to withdraw in the third round of the US Open against Adrian Mannarino.
Benefiting from a bye, he started against David Goffin in the second round. But the match started poorly for the American with two breaks conceded and only one break point not converted. He lost the first set 6-2.
The second set was tighter between the two players. After Shelton missed two break points, it was ultimately Goffin who managed to break his opponent's serve before serving for the match.
He wins with a score of 6-2, 6-4 and will face Gabriel Diallo in the next round. The Canadian got rid of Benjamin Bonzi 6-4, 6-4.
The Frenchman did not earn any break points during the match, succumbing to Diallo's dominance.
