Shapovalov is not afraid of anything: "If players earned a decent living"
This is typically the kind of comment that's not likely to go unnoticed.
While more and more people are questioning the demands of the ATP calendar, some are also criticizing players - and Carlos Alcaraz in particular - for criticizing this fact while playing exhibitions all over the world.
On this subject, Shapovalov had some rather jarring things to say, explaining that many players on the circuit don't really earn a decent living: "In my opinion, if players earned a decent living during the season, they wouldn't feel the need to play exhibitions during the off-peak periods.
Instead, players, apart from perhaps the top 20, only earn a decent living 4 times a year (the Grand Slams).
So it's a no-brainer for players to play exhibitions to earn money."
As a reminder, the Canadian, a professional since 2017, has accumulated a prizemoney of $11,052,226 since his debut.
