Ben Shelton wasted no time making his mark at the Toronto Masters 1000.
Riding the momentum from his semifinal run in Washington, the world No. 7 kicked off his campaign against Adrian Mannarino in Canada. While their previous encounters had favored the Frenchman (2-0, with their last meeting at the 2024 Australian Open), Shelton was far from the top 10 back then.
Now armed with a higher status this season, the American delivered a commanding performance, winning 6-2, 6-3 in just 1 hour and 5 minutes. His serve was a key weapon, firing 16 aces and winning 90% of points behind his first delivery.
In the third round, the tournament’s No. 4 seed will face the winner of the match between Brandon Nakashima and Ethan Quinn.
