"I'm aware it wasn't a great match," Zverev speaks after his Toronto opener
After his early exit at Wimbledon, Zverev decided to take a short break to recharge mentally. Seeking to improve his game, the German was also spotted at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, taking advice from the Spaniard's uncle. Returning to competition this week in Toronto, Zverev began his tournament with a win against world No. 88, Walton.
Winning 7-6, 6-4, he reflected on his slightly sluggish start in North America during the post-match press conference:
"I'm aware it wasn't a great match. I haven't played in four weeks. I took some time off because I really needed it. In practice, I didn’t do many rallies. I’m happy to be playing again. Tomorrow is another day, and I hope to improve."
In the third round, he will face Italy's Arnaldi.
