Video - Moutet and Brooksby Delight Spectators in Toronto
Corentin Moutet has advanced to the second round of the Toronto Masters 1000. A semifinalist in Washington last week, where he fell to Alex De Minaur—the eventual tournament champion—the Frenchman carried his momentum into Canada and faced Jenson Brooksby in his opening match.
The world No. 46 showed no nerves and secured a straightforward victory in two quick sets (6-2, 6-1 in 1h13). He will now face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who also impressed in the American capital by reaching the final against the Australian, for a spot in the Round of 16.
During his match against the American, Moutet—true to form—treated the crowd to a spectacular rally, though he didn’t win the point. After retrieving a net-cord ball from Brooksby, Moutet saw his opponent ultimately seal the point at the net a few shots later, following a tweener from the Frenchman at the baseline (see video below).
