Shnaider on the Djokovic-Alcaraz final at the Olympic Games: "I was shocked by their level".
Diana Shnaider was one of the great revelations of the 2024 season on the WTA Tour. The 20-year-old Russian reached the top 15 and won four titles, impressing with her consistency.
In an interview with Championat, she discusses a number of topics, including Novak Djokovic's gold medal win at the Olympic Games.
The Serb finally won the only major title missing from his already impressive list of achievements.
For Shnaider, there's no doubt that this is one of the highlights of tennis in 2024.
"I was very happy that Novak won the Olympic Games, but at the same time, I felt very sorry for Carlos Alcaraz.
I saw how much this match meant to him.
Nevertheless, I know he'll have the chance to win this title many times over, and he'll have the opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games many times in the future.
At the same time, I was really happy for Djokovic, because I understood that this was his last Olympic Games, his last chance, and that he gave 100% there.
He would have done anything to get to the Olympics," she asserted.
Diana Shnaider went on to confess that she had been blown away by the performance of both players in this final under the sun of the Parisian clay courts at Roland-Garros.
"Of course, I was impressed. What's more, Djokovic had injured his knee a month before. It was incredible to see how comfortable Novak was on the court with so much at stake.
Mirra (Andreeva) and I sat in the stands and watched the match. I was shocked by their level. There was nothing to complain about from start to finish.
