Show, tension, and domination: Bublik stops Moutet at the Rolex Paris Masters
Touted as explosive, the duel between Moutet and Bublik was short-lived. Dominant on serve and inspired in rallies, the Kazakh won 6-3, 7-5, extending his impressive 2025 season and his dreams of qualifying for the Masters.
It was the marquee match of the evening at the Rolex Paris Masters. Corentin Moutet and Alexander Bublik, far from being friends off the court, faced off in the second round of the Paris Masters 1000.
The Frenchman had emerged victorious yesterday against Reilly Opelka, while Bublik had easily cleared the first round against Popyrin. Both players, known for their unpredictable styles, offered the Parisian crowd some fine points, featuring underarm serves, passing shots, and defensive plays.
But overall, it was Bublik, a four-time title winner this 2025 season, who was the strongest on the center court in Nanterre, showing himself to be dominant on serve (6 aces, no breaks conceded) in addition to hitting 29 winners.
In 1 hour and 36 minutes of play, he ended Moutet's qualification hopes by winning 6-3, 7-5.
Still in the race to secure a spot at the ATP Finals, Bublik will play his third-round match tomorrow against Taylor Fritz. Moutet, for his part, will participate in the final edition of the Metz tournament next week.
