Siegemund Becomes the Oldest Player to Reach the Quarterfinals at Wimbledon

Laura Siegemund's journey has been unexpected and stands as one of the many surprises this 2025 edition of Wimbledon has delivered so far.
The 37-year-old and 118-day-old German had never advanced past the second round at the All England Club. With no strong results before arriving on the London grass (first-round exits in Nottingham and Bad Homburg), Siegemund gained momentum by defeating two top-40 players (Stearns and Fernandez) before taking down Madison Keys, the reigning Australian Open champion.
In the round of 16 this Sunday, her matchup against lucky loser Solana Sierra was unprecedented. She dominated the encounter, winning 6-3, 6-2, and thus became the oldest player (in the Open Era) to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
A brilliant performance from Siegemund, who surpassed the record set by her compatriot Tatjana Maria three years ago, when she reached the quarterfinals at 34 years and 324 days old.
For a spot in the semifinals, the world No. 104 will face Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1.
