Simon on Alcaraz: "We create a lot of expectations with this type of player. People are very harsh."
Carlos Alcaraz is currently having a 2025 season start that falls short of expectations.
Gilles Simon spoke with the media outlet Tennis365 and defended the Spaniard, who has faced a lot of criticism: "The problem with this type of player is that they are so hyped up that we create enormous expectations for them.
He has won four Grand Slams, which is incredible for his age. People are very harsh.
He has achieved so much and will accomplish even more. He’s supposed to win everything, so when he loses, it’s almost the end of the world.
Everyone loves him, and when he doesn’t win, we’re disappointed. We put all our hopes on him, and I find that unfair."
Alcaraz will have a chance to bounce back at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, which takes place next week.
