Sinner after his opening match at the Masters: "The court is faster than other years, it changes everything"
The defending ATP Finals champion, Jannik Sinner, started his 2025 tournament with a straight-sets victory over Félix Auger-Aliassime.
Sinner made a strong start to his 2025 Masters campaign. In Turin, the world number one defeated Auger-Aliassime (7-5, 6-1) in the first round-robin match, just days after his victory against the Canadian in the Paris Masters 1000 final.
After the match, which was tight in the first set, the 24-year-old player discussed the playing conditions, particularly the court, ahead of his second match against Alexander Zverev on Wednesday.
"Today, I served well in the important moments. The court is faster than in other years and that changes everything: the first shots of the point are crucial. If you miss one, you automatically lose the point.
The Turin court rewards aggression. You can't wait for your opponent to make a mistake, you have to go for your shots and take control of the point right from the serve. My goal was to put pressure on the serve and attack immediately with the next shot. Luckily, it worked," Sinner stated to Marca.
