The sanction was lenient, says the former director of the testing department of the French Anti-Doping Agency about Sinner

Jean-Pierre Verdy, founder and former director of the testing department of the French Anti-Doping Agency, has commented on the three-month sanction imposed on Jannik Sinner in 2025.

In remarks relayed by AS, he states: "What happened is unusual, but the more powerful the athlete, the more likely they are to get away with it. The excuses are always the same: this time, they say, it's the masseur's fault. But this explanation only holds for the biggest stars.

The sanction was lenient, considering the substance and the penalty an average athlete would have received if they had been caught with the same substance... Anyone else would have gotten two or three years.

What I've been saying all along.

And what has surfaced is that the Italian sporting community has done plenty of research into this steroid and how it can escape being detected.

Jannik is guilty of doping, yet he was given the choice of when and for how long he should be banned.
