Sinner cracks Fritz to move a step closer to the Masters semi-finals!
After a hard-fought match, Jannik Sinner virtually clinched his place in the last four of the ATP Finals by beating Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-4).
In the first set, the world n°1 was pushed around, saving a break point at 4-3. But he was able to close the game at the right moment, at 5-4 on Fritz's serve, to win the set.
At 3-3, 0-30 in the second set, Sinner disgusted Fritz by winning four consecutive points, including a long backhand passing shot that sent the Italian crowd into raptures.
It was at 5-4, when Fritz was leading 30-0 on his serve, that he managed to close out the match.
With this victory, he is almost certain to reach the semi-finals of the tournament on Saturday. But all will be decided on Thursday in what promises to be an interesting final day.
