Sinner Cracks Physically, Griekspoor Takes Advantage with Elegance: "I Wish Him the Best"
An intense battle, stifling heat, and a cruel ending for Jannik Sinner. Griekspoor, victorious after the Italian's withdrawal, delivered a classy reaction at the end of the match.
A victory with a particular taste for Tallon Griekspoor. Accustomed to challenging the best, the Dutchman arrived in Shanghai on a streak of seven consecutive defeats.
He now finds himself in the round of 16 following the withdrawal of world No. 2 Jannik Sinner, who was plagued by cramps in the third set of their duel (6-7, 7-5, 3-2).
After his victory, Griekspoor had a few words for the Italian:
"I think I was lucky to play in the evening, there was no sun and that certainly helped me. I wish Jannik the best and hope he recovers quickly. Challenging him is always tough, but I had pushed him before, so it's great to win this time."
