Sinner Crushes Auger-Aliassime and Advances to the Semifinals in Cincinnati

Back on the court this Thursday after his victory yesterday against Adrian Mannarino, Jannik Sinner made quick work of Félix Auger-Aliassime.
The Canadian had a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head record against the world No. 1, but their last meeting dated back to this same tournament three years ago. Since then, Sinner has become a completely different player—most notably, a multiple Grand Slam champion.
The difference in progress between the two players was glaring, as the Italian won 6-0, 6-2 in just over an hour of play.
During the first set, Auger-Aliassime did not hit a single winner and committed 13 unforced errors. Though he woke up at the start of the second set with an early break that he managed to consolidate, he then lost six consecutive games.
Troubled by Mannarino yesterday, Sinner didn’t have to push himself today. As the defending champion, he reaches the semifinals of the event for the second year in a row. He will play his semifinal on Saturday against Holger Rune or Terence Atmane, the tournament’s breakout star.
