Sinner evens the match at one set all against Alcaraz, the US Open final reignited!
The US Open final is in full swing on Arthur Ashe Court between the two best players in the world. In a match that is set to become a tennis classic for years to come, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are battling for the title as well as the world number one ranking, both of which will go to the winner of this showdown in New York.
At the start of the match, an impressive Alcaraz wrapped up the first set in 37 minutes, with 11 winners against just 2 unforced errors and only 3 points lost on his serve.
But Sinner didn’t back down and fought back in the second set. After saving an early break point on his serve, he then broke his opponent to love at 1-1.
Alcaraz thus conceded his serve for only the third time in the tournament, following his matches against Darderi in the third round and Djokovic in the semifinals, and was unable to recover the deficit in this set.
Much more solid and on his feet, Sinner maintained his lead all the way to level the match at one set all (2-6, 6-3 after 1 hour and 20 minutes of play, with 7 winners against 7 unforced errors in this set for the Italian).
As a result of this set won by Sinner (which is also the first set lost by Alcaraz in this US Open fortnight), the Spaniard will not become the first player in the Open Era to win the US Open without dropping a single set.
The final, meanwhile, is completely reignited between the two major players of this 2025 season. The defending champion hasn’t had the last word, and that’s all the better for the suspense.
