For his first match since his suspension, Jannik Sinner defeated Mariano Navone in his opening round at Rome.
Pleased to have secured the win in front of his home crowd, the world No. 1 spoke to journalists about the doubts that crossed his mind before this highly anticipated return to competition:
"Of course I had doubts. It’s normal to have them. It would even be strange not to have any—it might even seem arrogant. I had doubts when stepping onto the court. I have them about what will happen in the next match.
But you have to live with it because it shows you want to improve and achieve something special. I think each of us has doubts every day."
