Suspended for three months from the circuit for negligence, Jannik Sinner won his first match since January on Saturday at the Rome Masters 1000.
The world No. 1, who defeated Mariano Navone in straight sets (6-3, 6-4), expressed his happiness at returning to competition:
"Coming back like this is an incredible feeling. I waited a long time to assess my game because, without competition, you don’t really know where you stand. I needed a match. It’s the best training you can have.
I felt good, the day was very positive. Maybe I could have moved a bit better, but it wasn’t too bad. I played against a quality opponent and felt very good, so I’m happy."
