Sinner on Medvedev: "He made me grow as a player".
The rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev has been one of the biggest on the ATP circuit since their first meeting.
In fact, the Russian led 6-0 in their confrontations, systematically taking the psychological advantage over his Italian opponent.
Nevertheless, from the end of 2023, Sinner began to reverse the trend, winning his next five matches.
Now, the current world number 1 leads 8-7, including a memorable victory in the Australian Open final in early 2024.
The Italian toppled Medvedev after conceding the first two sets.
In an interview with Tennis Magazine, Jannik Sinner praised Medvedev, who has had a huge impact on his progress.
"I thought I'd become a great player when I broke into the top 10, but I couldn't beat the best in the world, so I had to add something to my tennis.
I'd say Medvedev is a good example. He made me grow as a player. I never beat him at first, but gradually I found the solution in Beijing and won the title.
A few days later, I also won against him in Vienna, then at the ATP Finals in Turin. When Simone Vagnozzi started training me, I began to vary my game.
Since the second half of the 2023 season, I feel that all the pieces have started to come together, especially the serve, which has become an important weapon in key moments of the matches. We're heading in the right direction," says Sinner.
