Sinner tested but victorious: world No. 2 advances to the quarter-finals in Vienna

Dominant then challenged, Jannik Sinner eventually overcame his compatriot Flavio Cobolli. After 1 hour and 46 minutes of battle, the Italian advances to the quarter-finals and continues his forward march in Austria.

The world No. 2 will indeed be present for the quarter-finals in Vienna. Jannik Sinner, after a sparkling match yesterday against Daniel Altmaier, was expected to step up his game against his compatriot Flavio Cobolli.

It was after a one-sided first set won by Sinner that the real battle began. Cobolli kept up the pace from the baseline, even saving three break points in a row at 6-5 in this second set.

The tie-break was very intense, but Sinner, ever so relentless in the rallies, eventually broke his Davis Cup teammate. A 6-2, 7-6 victory in 1 hour and 46 minutes that sees him through to the next round in Austria.

He will face Alexander Bublik tomorrow, an opponent he knows well. The two players have faced each other three times this year. The Kazakh player defeated the Italian in Halle, but lost decisively at Roland-Garros and the US Open.
