Sinner, Tired but Victorious in Beijing: "He Neutralized My Serve Very Well"
In a closely contested duel, Jannik Sinner prevailed this Tuesday in the semifinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing against Australian Alex De Minaur. Final score: a three-set battle of high intensity, where the Italian had to dig deep into his physical and mental reserves to come out on top.
"The level was very high. There were many long rallies," he shared just minutes after his victory.
And indeed, De Minaur, as tenacious as ever, made life difficult for Sinner, neutralizing his serve and covering the court with his usual movement quality.
"He neutralized my serve very well and moved exceptionally well. This court is sometimes quite slow, so that helps. I had my chances in the 2nd set but couldn't capitalize on them. While he had more opportunities. In the 3rd, I tried to raise my level. I broke him very early, which gave me a bit of confidence to serve better afterward," explained Sinner, clear-eyed.
With this victory, Sinner once again advances to the final on the ATP tour this season. A habit? Not for him.
"I have one night to recover. I'll manage. In the final, you have even more adrenaline. More desire to play your absolute best. I'm looking forward to it. These matches are very special. It's another excellent result."
