Lorenzo Sonego, currently ranked 39th in the world, will begin the 2026 season with a rather complicated task: defending his quarterfinal finish that he achieved at the Australian Open last season.

In an interview with Tuttosport, the Italian approaches the upcoming season with confidence and determination: "Breaking into the top 20 and surpassing my current best ranking, 21st place, is no longer enough for me to progress. I feel I can still achieve something, and the work we are doing and will continue to do is precisely aimed in that direction.

"Competition is intensifying"

Competition is intensifying and new players are emerging. How to maintain one's level? Tennis is an extremely competitive sport and one must never lose motivation, relying on the experience gained over the years to make the difference, especially against young talents.

Then, it's necessary to have the strength and desire to constantly get back into the match, even after a major tournament or a remarkable performance. The challenge, even internal, must never fade.

Grand Slam tournaments are the goal of every professional player. It will be crucial to approach each match one after another, without fearing the loss of points. The path is always fraught with obstacles and must be managed well. I wish to play more on clay, the surface on which I was born and raised. That's why, after Melbourne, I will participate in tournaments in South America."

Hello I'm new

I am surprised about relatively low attendance at Roland Garros which was the most popular slam 20+ years ago. I myself love it as well as really loving aus and us opens. I don't care about Wimbledon, sometimes maybe I can watch women's tennis. I hate Wimbledon's white dress code, I feel like I am watching junior tennis...I watched very few matches like Graf davenport final in 1999 the last time.....
