Stats: 15 Consecutive Grand Slams Without a Frenchman in the Quarterfinals, the Second-Highest Total in the Open Era
French men's tennis had reasons to celebrate during this US Open, with strong performances from Arthur Rinderknech and Adrian Mannarino—both eliminated in the round of 16—stunning victories by Benjamin Bonzi, and the surprising run of qualifier Ugo Humbert, who reached the third round.
However, it has now been 15 consecutive Grand Slams without a French player reaching the quarterfinals. As noted by Jeu, Set et Maths on X, this is the second-longest such streak in the Open Era, only behind the 27-tournament drought between Wimbledon 1974 and the Australian Open 1981.
The last Frenchman to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal was Gaël Monfils at the 2022 Australian Open. To find another French player besides Monfils reaching that stage in a Major, one has to go back to the 2019 Australian Open, where Lucas Pouille made it all the way to the semifinals.
