Statistician Opta Ace continues to take stock of the 2024 WTA season. Now it's time to look at the percentage of points won at net this year, excluding Grand Slams.

The five most agile players on the volley over the last twelve months are known, and the big winner is Jelena Ostapenko.

The 27-year-old Latvian won 73.4% of points in this situation in 2024, the highest percentage on the WTA Tour among players having played at least ten matches.

She is ahead of Ons Jabeur, who likes to go forward to close out her points. The Tunisian is hot on the heels of the 2017 French Open winner with 73.2% of points won at net.

On the third step of the podium, we find Maria Sakkari (71.5%). Rounding out the top 5 are Iga Swiatek (71.2%) and Danielle Collins (70%), confirming their consistency in this area of the game.

Despite top-10 ATP rankings and consistent excellence, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gaël Monfils, Richard Gasquet, and Gilles Simon never claimed a Grand Slam title, enduring mockery from French media amid Big 3 dominance. A deep dive into a talented generation defined by sky-high expectations and brutal competition.

Andy Murray chased Australian Open glory throughout his career alongside the Big 3. The former World No. 1 built an exceptional resume but never lifted the Melbourne trophy despite five final heartbreakers.

As much as I love watching Alcaraz at his best, I'd love to see Alex taking this, he's such a tryer, and getting married and his humour and humility...

Favoritism?

Last year: Sinner seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 2.

This year: Alcaraz seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 3.

That means: 7 matches in 15 days for Alcaraz, 7 in 13 days for Sinner; and no rest day for Sinner between quarter and semis, 1 full day rest for Alcaraz.

Also, on the first very hot day, the organizers schedule Sinner...
