2024 saw a number of WTA Tour players come to the fore. Between January and November, twelve new players opened their palmares on the main circuit.
The first of these was Emma Navarro, who made enormous strides. The 23-year-old American, who started the year ranked 32nd, is now in the top 10.
She has made a perfect start to 2024 with a title in Hobart in January against Elise Mertens in preparation for the Australian Open.
Diana Shnaider is even more impressive.
Not only did the 20-year-old Russian left-hander win her first WTA trophy in Hua Hin in January against Zhu Lin, but she also added three other titles to her list: Bad Homburg (against Vekic), Budapest (against Sasnovich) and Hong Kong (by dominating Boulter).
She thus became the youngest player to win a title on every surface since Caroline Wozniacki.
Shnaider was ranked 12th in the world at the beginning of November.
At the age of 17, Mirra Andreeva played her first Grand Slam semi-final at Roland-Garros and confirmed her progress by climbing to 16th on the WTA rankings.
She opened her account in Iasi during the summer. She took advantage of Elina Avanesyan's withdrawal in the third set to lift the trophy.
There are nine other players to have experienced the joy of winning their first title on the circuit during the season just ended.
They are Linda Noskova (Monterrey), McCartney Kessler (Cleveland), Peyton Stearns (Rabat), Yue Yuan (Austin), Sonay Kartal (Monastir), Magdalena Frech (Guadalajara), Suzan Lamens (Osaka), Zeynep Sonmez (Mérida) and Rebecca Sramkova (Hua Hin 2).
