Stubbs on Djokovic: There is no reason for him to continue playing

Serena Williams' former coach, Rennae Stubbs, has discussed the future of the record Grand Slam title holder: Novak Djokovic.

On her podcast (The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast), the Australian openly questions the Serb's motivations for continuing his career, despite worrying physical signs and an already unmatched record.

"Novak no longer seems to have enough resources against certain players... At some point, and I've been talking about this for months, even a year or two, time makes itself felt. At some point, it inevitably catches up with you. So you wonder: how long is he going to keep playing?

I hope I'm wrong because I want him to continue for a long time yet. But I wonder if he will keep fighting until the French Open and Wimbledon. He has about nine months left. He's not looking to win another Masters 1000 because he holds all the records. So there is no reason for him to continue playing."

At 38, the former world number one remains a monster of consistency: semi-finals in all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2025, despite recurring injuries and ever-younger competition.

Furthermore, the Serb himself has stated that he is not yet ready to retire, drawing inspiration from champions like LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo.
