Successful Start for Gracheva in Charleston
The only French player in the Top 100, Varvara Gracheva, advanced to the second round of the WTA 500 in Charleston. The world No. 66 needed three sets to overcome Harriett Dart, ranked 109th (6-1, 3-6, 6-1).
The French player capitalized on her opponent's shaky serve (Dart won only 51% of points behind her first serve) to break seven times and secure the win, despite a slight dip in the second set.
In the next round, Gracheva will seek revenge against Elise Mertens, who eliminated her at the same stage of the competition last year.
