Surprise in Beijing: Swiatek Suffers 6-0 Set and Crashes Out in Round of 16

Emma Navarro staged a stunning upset at the Beijing WTA 1000, eliminating world No. 2 Iga Swiatek—who had been undefeated in the tournament—in the round of 16. And she did so with an absolutely ruthless final set: 6–0.
Trophies may pile up, but spectacular defeats hit harder. Swiatek, accustomed to dictating play, saw her dominance shattered by the American. The match between the two players even turned into a humiliation in the third set: 6–4, 4–6, 6–0 in Navarro’s favor.
In the first set, Swiatek tried to impose her tempo, relying on her usual strengths, but Navarro did not yield, creating far more break opportunities (2/7 compared to 1/1) and even pulling ahead to everyone's surprise.
In the second act, Iga regained her composure. She raised her level, reasserted her aggression, and broke her opponent’s serve twice to level the match.
However, the final set was of a completely different intensity. Navarro won six consecutive games, leaving no opening for Swiatek. It’s a scoreline typically dealt by the Pole, but this time, it felt like a monumental slap in the face.
As the No. 16 seed in the tournament, Emma Navarro is now through to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of the Pegula-Kostyuk match.
