Suspected of doping, Sinner is finally cleared!
Having just won the Cincinnati Masters 1000, Jannik Sinner received a second piece of excellent news on Tuesday.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has cleared the Transalpine.
After testing positive for a banned substance on two occasions in March 2024 at the Indian Wells tournament, the world number 1 immediately appealed, explaining that he had been contaminated by a member of his medical staff.
The shadow of a suspension had been hanging over his shoulders for several months, but in the end, this was not to be and the Italian could continue to play freely.
The only hitch is that his ATP points and prize money from the Indian Wells tournament have been withdrawn.
In the press release, the independent agency explained: "After consultation with scientific experts, who concluded that the player's explanation was credible, the ITIA did not oppose the player's appeals to lift the provisional suspensions.
The ITIA has accepted the player's explanation as to the source of the clostébol found in his sample and that the violation was not intentional.
Sinner's results, prize money and ATP ranking points from the Indian Wells Masters 1000 are cancelled."
The winner of the last Australian Open can breathe a sigh of relief.
While in Simona case, she was suspended immediately until they didn't make the decision.
She was begging them just to speed up the decision.
Triple standards!!!
Depends from where you are and how valuable you are for the business.
Why not wait until the substance clears his system in the first place?
She claimed it was a virus. Not one other person came down with this "virus"....Joke rules...
The 27-year-old, who reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of 75th in February 2022, tested positive for three banned substances.
He was tested in Sofia, Japan and Seoul in September and October last year, and by Polish officials in November.
Majchrzak said an isotonic drink had contained the prohibited substances.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which announced the ban, accepted Majchrzak "had not knowingly or intentionally" committed an offence.
The ITIA said Majchrzak acknowledged tennis players were aware of the risks of contaminated supplements.
Majchrzak has been serving a provisional suspension since 30 November and can return from his suspension on 29 December 2023.
