Swiatek consoles herself with bronze and denies Schmiedlova a medal
Iga Swiatek got back on track in the wake of her surprise semi-final defeat at the Olympic Games. The world No.1 clearly dominated the final for 3rd place against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, winning in 59 minutes and two sets (6-2, 6-1).
Having failed to win the gold she had been promised, the Pole consoled herself with bronze. It was a disappointment for the Slovak who, despite her magnificent performance on the clay courts of Roland-Garros, left the French capital empty-handed.
This Saturday's final will pit Zheng Qinwen of China, who defeated Swiatek, against Donna Vekic of Croatia.
