Currently world number 2, Iga Swiatek is one of the players who have dominated the WTA Tour for several years.
Unstoppable on clay, having won four of the last five editions of the French Open, the Pole has only won one Grand Slam tournament on other surfaces, at the US Open 2022.
Very close to reaching the final of the Australian Open earlier this year after earning a match point against Madison Keys, Swiatek has so far never reached the final in Melbourne, nor has she progressed beyond the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.
Of her 10 WTA 1000 titles, six have been on hard courts and four on clay, a sign that she is also capable of performing well on hard courts.
In an interview with The Athletic, Swiatek confirmed her ambition to achieve even better results on both hard and grass courts.
"It's just a question of physics. On clay, it will be a little easier, because my topspin will be higher and my movements will be better than what other players can do by sliding and changing direction. But on hard, I feel I'm a good player too.
The same thing happened with Rafael Nadal. Everyone always talks about clay, but he's the best player of all time on practically any surface.
He's also won Wimbledon twice. Not every player can achieve these results, even on one surface.
It's something people focus on. I mention it because I have the most fun on clay, but I also like hard courts.
I feel like I've got my weapons and I can use them. I want to be a good player on all surfaces," says Swiatek.
