Iga Swiatek had to work hard against Madison Keys to secure her spot in the Madrid semifinals.
She lost the first set 6-0, something that hadn’t happened to her since 2021.
In her post-match press conference, she reflected on the incident: "Well... it's not pleasant. At least it was quick. That’s the only positive.
But staying on the court and losing 6-0 is weird. Honestly, it was one of the strangest matches I’ve ever played. I didn’t feel like the first set was that bad.
I was feeling the ball well. I tried to play a bit shorter, and with a few mistakes from Maddy, the momentum shifted at the end. I’m glad I managed to turn it around."
She will face Coco Gauff this Thursday for a place in the Madrid final.
