Swiatek on her 2020 French Open title: "I was convinced it would be the one great success of my life".
Iga Swiatek is well established in second place in the WTA rankings.
The Pole, who has been a consistent performer for several years, is one of the most reliable players on the circuit.
With five Grand Slam titles to her name, she is the favorite at the start of every major tournament, especially when it comes to Roland Garros.
In Paris, Iga Swiatek has already triumphed four times: in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
In the autumn of 2020, the Pole, ranked 54th in the world, created a sensation by winning the Paris tournament against Sofia Kenin, seeded 4th and winner of the Australian Open earlier in the season, in the final.
In fact, as a guest on Caroline Garcia's Tennis Insider Club podcast, the Pole made a revelation about her first Major title.
"With Daria Abramowicz (her psychologist), we started our collaboration in 2019 and we had great results from 2020, so it would have been harder to digest it all without her and without my coach who knew me since I was 17.
People don't know this, but after that first title at Roland Garros, I was only focused on the business side of the sport.
I wasn't concentrating on tennis and training. I was convinced that this would be the one great success of my life", she began.
"Daria knew all that. She wanted me to manage on my own, but I didn't listen to her. All I could think about was money and sponsors.
After several months, she saw that I hadn't done anything to change. She made me understand that this wasn't a good way of looking at things and told me that this wasn't the only major title I was going to win in my career.
After that, I refocused on my game and was able to work on the court more regularly instead of spending my time behind a laptop," concluded Swiatek.
