Australian Open 2025: Women's seeds officially announced

With just a few days to go before the start of the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open has officially announced the seeds for the main draw, which takes place this Thursday, January 9 at 2.30pm local time.

Two-time title holder and current world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka will of course be the main seed, just ahead of Iga Swiatek (No.2), Coco Gauff (No.3) and Jasmine Paolini (No.4). Last year's finalist, Qinwen Zheng, completes the top 5.

Back on the courts during the United Cup after being absent from the circuit since the US Open, Elena Rybakina (n°6) and her new coach Goran Ivanisevic are hoping to improve on last year's second-round finish.

Jessica Pegula (n°7), who was beaten prematurely by Clara Burel in Melbourne last year, will surely have something to play for this year.

Also of note is the presence of 35-year-old Victoria Azarenka (n°21), a two-time Australian Open winner in 2012 and 2013.

Elina Svitolina, who has been absent with a foot injury since the US Open, remains in the top 30 (no. 28), while 2024 semi-finalist Dayana Yastremska (no. 32) has a big stake in this first major of the season.

Please tell me Kimberly Birrell can still get a WC, if she doesn't win this 3rd round of qualifying.

It's so close.
