Swiatek well ahead of Paolini in Roland-Garros final!
Saturday is final day. The women's singles draw will deliver its verdict this afternoon (not before 3 p.m.). On Court Philippe Chatrier, Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini will battle it out for the ultimate title.
In a surprise final, there could be little suspense, given the margin the world number 1 seems to have over almost all her opponents. That said, vigilance is still called for, and tennis remains an unpredictable sport where anything is possible.
In any case, this duel will be the third meeting between the two players (the second on the main circuit). And it's fair to say that the Italian's record does not speak in her favor. In two matches, the 28-year-old hasn't won a set and has even won just 6 games. Swept aside in Prague (ITF $80,000) in 2018, when the 17-year-old Pole was in the early stages of her career (6-2, 6-1), she hasn't fared much better on the main circuit. Returning to a Swiatek with a diametrically different status, she was once again largely dominated in the first round of the US Open 2022 (6-3, 6-0).
So, it seems that Paolini's aim will be above all to offer interesting opposition. Will she be able to defy the odds and come out on top this Saturday? Find out on court!
