The bad times continue for Ostapenko, eliminated by Bouzkova in Brisbane

The bad times continue for Ostapenko, eliminated by Bouzkova in Brisbane

The 2025 season is not off to the best of starts for Jelena Ostapenko.

The Latvian, ranked 15th in the world, lost on her return to competition in Brisbane. Opposed to Czech player Marie Bouzkova, Ostapenko broke away in the first set, quickly leading 5 games to 1.

But Bouzkova, true to form, gave up nothing and came back mentally to win the first set in a one-sided tiebreak (7 points to 0 for the Czech, ranked 44th in the world).

The number 7 seed at the Brisbane WTA 500 tried to react, but ultimately lost 7-6, 6-4 with a total of 12 double faults.

It was the fifth consecutive defeat for the 2017 French Open winner, and the seventh in her last eight matches.

Her last success on the circuit dates back to the Toronto Masters 1000 on August 9, where she dominated Paula Badosa in the first round.

With just a few days to go before the start of the Australian Open, doubt seems to have truly set in for Ostapenko.

As much as I love watching Alcaraz at his best, I'd love to see Alex taking this, he's such a tryer, and getting married and his humour and humility...

Favoritism?

Last year: Sinner seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 2.

This year: Alcaraz seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 3.

That means: 7 matches in 15 days for Alcaraz, 7 in 13 days for Sinner; and no rest day for Sinner between quarter and semis, 1 full day rest for Alcaraz.

Also, on the first very hot day, the organizers schedule Sinner...

FYI- Ive never bought a single item from any of them after years of using your app, a goal that started as short term but has developed into long term.
