The Italian Sports Minister asks, "Why doesn't WADA apply these changes immediately?"
In recent days, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has decided to modify its regulations.
From January 1, 2027, the changes will mainly concern involuntary testing for banned substances, mainly in cases linked to contamination.
This decision comes after the positive tests of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek in recent months, which caused a stir in the tennis world, particularly with regard to the speed with which these cases were handled.
In an interview with La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Italy's Minister of Sport, Andrea Abodi, said he could not understand why it had taken so long to make such changes.
"If WADA has come to this conclusion, why doesn't it apply these changes immediately?
What happened with Sinner has at least succeeded in awakening WADA's conscience and making it understand that the fight against doping also requires a more precise and in-depth interpretation of the facts", he said.
