The Netherlands reach the Davis Cup final for the first time in their history!
Thanks to Tallon Griekspoor's three-set win over Jan-Lennard Struff (6-7, 7-5, 6-4), the Netherlands have qualified for the Davis Cup final at the expense of Germany.
A historic day for Dutch tennis. For the first time in their history, the Netherlands will play in the Davis Cup final on Sunday.
Earlier in the evening, Botic Van de Zandschulp gave his nation its first point after a three-set victory over Daniel Altmaier (6-4, 6-7, 6-3). The Dutch No.2 concluded the match on his ninth match point.
In the second singles, Griekspoor defeated Struff after a very close match. The world no. 27 came close to defeat, trailing 7-6, 4-3 and with a break point against him.
After a service game in which the German made a series of unforced errors, he took advantage of the situation to make the first break of the match at 6-5 and win the second set.
Griekspoor was impressive on his serve (25 aces), and continued his fine form in the final set, taking Struff's serve from the outset.
Solid on every face-off, it was with a final ace that he sent the Netherlands into the final of the competition.
Having eliminated Spain, the Dutch can now look forward to tomorrow's other semi-final between Australia and Italy.
