The players nominated for the WTA Awards have been announced!
The WTA Tour season officially came to an end almost two weeks ago, and after many months of competition, the players will be rewarded at the WTA Awards.
In the best player of the year category, world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, winner of two Grand Slams (Australian Open and US Open), is the logical choice. She is joined on the shortlist by Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini and Qinwen Zheng.
The WTA has decided to nominate Danielle Collins, Ana Kalinskaya, Marta Kostyuk, Emma Navarro and Dana Schneider in the Best Progression of the Year category.
Paolini, who climbed from 29th to 4th place in the world with a season full of feats (two Grand Slam finals, Olympic gold medal, BJK Cup winner), is the big absentee from this list.
As for the comeback player of the year, Paula Badosa, Karolina Muchova, Naomi Osaka, Emma Raducanu and Amanda Anisimova are all nominated.
The award should logically come down to Badosa and Muchova, the Spaniard having managed to climb back into the Top 20 (12th in the world) after starting the season outside the Top 100, and the Czech, having reached the US Open semi-finals just a few months after undergoing wrist surgery.
Finally, the WTA has also added the category of Revelation of the Year. Lulu Sun, Erika Andreeva, Rebecca Sramkova, Zeynep Sonmez and Sonay Kartal are the players nominated.
The winners will be announced in early December.
