"The schedule is too packed. Tennis isn't everything in life," fumes Swiatek

Iga Swiatek attended a press conference to discuss the upcoming 2025 Wimbledon tournament, where she will only be seeded eighth.
She also took the opportunity to revisit the issue of the lengthy schedule, which she finds overly demanding: "Personally, I think the schedule is extremely packed, too packed. It’s absurd to play more than 20 tournaments a year.
Sometimes, we have to skip a tournament in our own country because we have to compete in certain WTA 500 events to avoid dropping in the rankings. These obligations and rules tied to specific tournaments put pressure on us.
I believe people would still watch tennis even if we played fewer tournaments. It would help us perform more consistently in the long run. It’s a challenge—tennis is a tough sport.
Every week, we start from scratch, but it’s important to remember that tennis isn’t everything in life. You have to step back and take pride in what you do, even when you fail."
Swiatek will make her Wimbledon debut against Polina Kudermetova this Tuesday.
