The Second Serve: A Symbol of Djokovic's Struggles?

Once again after Roland-Garros, Djokovic faced Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals. A matchup that has become routine on the tour, and for the fifth consecutive time, it favored the world No. 1 (6-3, 6-3, 6-4).

At 38, the Serbian appeared completely overwhelmed by the Italian's power and precision: 36 winners to just 17 unforced errors. Less sharp on his serves, Djokovic struggled behind his second serve, costing him a significant number of points throughout the match.

According to *Jeu, Set et Maths*, Djokovic won only 17% of his points after his second serve—just 5 out of 30. This statistic hadn’t been seen since 2005, during his match against Safin at the Australian Open. Back then, the Grand Slam record-holder conceded 22 points behind his second serve out of 27 played (19%, 5/27).

Interesting because when Federer's game began to fade he realized he had to depend more on his serve. He backed off his first serve some and got more of them in, giving him a slight advantage to end points quicker from the outset. But father time took that away too eventually.
