Today, I didn't do anything wrong, did I?" Medvedev reacts after incident with the chair umpire
Beaten once again by Frenchman Bonzi in the first round of a Grand Slam (6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 0-6, 6-4), Medvedev's ordeal seems endless. The Russian has never made it past the second round in a Major this year.
But as if that result wasn't enough, the Russian made headlines again during an incident with the umpire. Indeed, when his opponent served for the match at 5-4 in the third set, a photographer entered the court after Bonzi missed his first serve, prompting the chair umpire to award him two serves.
A decision that angered Medvedev, who, with the help of the crowd, delayed the match for six minutes.
Present at a press conference after his defeat, the former world number one attempted to justify himself to a journalist:
Journalist: "These last two years, it seems like you're pushing to see where the limit is?"
Medvedev: "Today, I didn't do anything wrong, did I?"
Journalist: "You delayed the match by about 6 minutes."
Medvedev: "Not me, the crowd."
Journalist: "You were making heart emojis at them and encouraging them."
Medvedev: "Heart emojis? I love them. They did the work, I didn't do anything. And they pushed me to get back into the match (the crowd)… It was fun for me.
