Top seed in Monterrey, Navarro knocked out in first round by Parks

Emma Navarro continues her difficult period on the WTA tour. Competing in the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey as the top seed, the American, ranked 11th in the world, did not gain much confidence ahead of the US Open.
Exempt from the first round, the 24-year-old player fell in her opening match against Alycia Parks (4-6, 6-3, 6-2). Navarro has now lost five of her last six matches. A semi-finalist at last year’s US Open, she will arrive in New York this year sorely lacking in confidence.
It should be noted that the quarter-final matchups are now known in the Mexican city. Parks, who dominated her compatriot Navarro, will face Rebecca Sramkova.
The schedule will open on Thursday with the enticing duel between Diana Shnaider and Elise Mertens. Defending champion Linda Noskova will challenge Ekaterina Alexandrova. Finally, the last quarter-final of the day will pit Antonia Ruzic against Marie Bouzkova.
