Tsitsipas Defeats Korda to Join Arthur Fils in Quarterfinals
Tsitsipas secured his spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Korda in the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona. After a tightly contested first set and a tie-break, the Greek player took control over the American to win in straight sets (7-6, 6-4).
The 26-year-old, however, committed 15 unforced errors across both sets and converted only one of seven break points. In his opening match, the 2021 Roland-Garros finalist had a straightforward victory against Opelka (6-2, 6-2).
Now ranked 19th in the world, he will aim to secure a semifinal spot in a clay-court tournament this year. The native of Karditsa, Greece, was previously eliminated by Musetti in the Monte-Carlo quarterfinals (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
This season, his best performance came in Dubai, where he claimed the trophy in a dominant final against Auger-Aliassime (6-3, 6-3).
