Tsitsipas gives an update on Badosa: “She is close to being at 100%”
Paula Badosa's back injury continues to flare up. For the past two years, the Spaniard has had to battle with her body, and despite reaching her first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open this year, the world No. 10 had to withdraw from the tournaments in Indian Wells, Madrid, and Rome (in addition to pulling out before facing Alexandra Eala in the Round of 16 in Miami).
Badosa has not played a single match on clay this year, with Roland-Garros fast approaching. While questions remain about the health of the former World No. 2, her partner, Stefanos Tsitsipas, provided an update on Badosa in an interview with Tennis Channel in recent hours.
“I feel that at the moment, she is close to being at 100%, but she’s not there yet. That's my takeaway. I try to support her as best as I can, in one way or another.
Beyond that, only Paula can know her limits. I assume she’s more reflective now than before. She was naive and stubborn when her back started bothering her two years ago.
She really wanted to come back as soon as possible back then. I remember telling her she was rushing and doing things too quickly. I'm happy she learned and listens to her body more now.
I'm thrilled to see she’s taking all the time she needs so she can be 100% upon her return,” assured the Greek to Tennis Channel.
