Tsitsipas, season over: "I want to come back stronger in 2026"
Injuries, controversies, and disappointments: the year 2025 has been an ordeal for Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek player is officially ending his season to rebuild himself before 2026.
2025 has been a calvary for Stefanos Tsitsipas. Ranked 11th at the start of the season, the Greek player gradually lost his luster, despite a February that saw him brilliantly win the ATP 500 in Dubai and mark his return to the top 10.
While many believed the two-time Grand Slam finalist had regained his former level, that was not the case. On clay, his favorite surface, Tsitsipas experienced a string of disappointments.
The descent into hell continued on grass when Goran Ivanisevic, his coach for a month, publicly criticized his physical condition.
The Athens native turned to his father again, but his season ended with a cascade of withdrawals due to a painful back. It was only logical that he announced this Friday that he is ending his 2025 campaign, prioritizing "his recovery and healing in order to come back stronger in 2026."
Absent from official competition since the Davis Cup in September, Tsitsipas did, however, participate last week in the Six Kings Slam, allowing him to cash a check for $1.5 million for a single match played.
