Tsitsipas withdraws from the ATP 250 tournament in Umag
Stefanos Tsitsipas has a new coach in Goran Ivanisevic. The two have been working together since the start of the grass season, but results will have to wait. At Wimbledon, the Greek player, suffering from a back injury, threw in the towel in the first round against Valentin Royer after losing the first two sets.
This situation frustrated the Croatian coach, who believed Tsitsipas was physically unprepared when entering the London Grand Slam. The top players on the tour are gradually preparing for the North American swing, with the back-to-back tournaments in Toronto, Cincinnati, and the US Open.
Tsitsipas, meanwhile, had planned to regain confidence on clay and had entered the ATP 250 tournament in Umag, Croatia, scheduled for July 20–26. However, the world No. 26 will not be competing after all. Possibly still dealing with his back issue, he has ultimately withdrawn, delaying his return to competition.
