Two Points from Defeat, Rune Stages Comeback Against Halys to Reach Roland-Garros Round of 16

Halys faced Rune on Court Philippe-Chatrier in the third round of Roland-Garros.
After a tightly contested first set, Halys seized his opportunities to break his opponent and take the lead in the match. Rune then significantly raised his level of play, dominating the second set 6-2, winning 94% of points on his first serve.
In the third set, the two players engaged in a fierce battle, ultimately won by Quentin Halys through sheer determination, giving him the advantage (2 sets to 1). The following set proved frustrating for the Frenchman, who led 5-4, 30-15 on the Dane’s serve but, much like at Wimbledon last year, let his chance slip before collapsing in the fifth and final set.
Close to defeating his first top-10 player at Porte d’Auteuil and advancing to the tournament’s second week, Halys leaves Paris with deep frustration. France has been waiting since 2016 for a Frenchman to defeat a top-10 player at Roland-Garros—the last being Gasquet against Nishikori, the No. 6 seed, in the 2016 round of 16.
As for Rune, he secured his second five-set victory over a French player (4-6, 6-2, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2) and advances to the round of 16 at Porte d’Auteuil. He will next face Italy’s Musetti.
